Cheap Thrills – Perfect $0.69 Glasses from IKEA

IKEA POKAL Glass

The IKEA POKAL Glass

I first noticed this glass at a little French bistro I frequent on weekends. The omelets and crepes were accompanied by freshly-made fruit juice, served in this simple sturdy glass. I always liked the utilitarian cafeteria-style glasses, but fancy ones I found in stores always seemed to try too hard – they were too wide, too manly, too curved, too stylized. Who knew that indestructible, simple perfection was found for $.69 cents at IKEA?

Oh, and POKAL is Swedish for ‘cup’. How practical!

Home Trends – White with Yellow Accents

CB2 Yellow Bathroom Accents

CB2 Yellow Bathroom Accents

$39.95 CityScape Shower Curtain | $3.95 – $24.95 Bamboo Bath Towels | $19.95 Cirrus Rug from CB2

White is the cleanest, crispest color that can often become sterile or boring. Yellow, on the other hand, is instantaneously cheery and has popped up everywhere as a great accent pairing. From Pottery Barn to CB2, yellow and white are living in blissful harmony, perfectly countering each other’s bad habits (white can be too plain an yellow too vibrant).

Here are some great examples of yellow & white from Domino:

You can also pair yellow and white with black for some real drama:

Salt & Pepper Huggings

Salt & Pepper Shakers

Salt & Pepper Shakers

$30 at the MOMA Online Store

These are my favorite cooking utensils and although MOMA insists these are hugging ‘characters’ they can certainly be mistaken for a set of ‘hugging ghosts’! As you hold the smooth-porcelain body hostage, salt (or pepper) pours out of the eye and mouth holes – not only is this extremely cute but also provides a consistent flow, which is absolutely perfect for cooking!
